Mari Okada’s Directorial Debut Anime Film “Maquia” to Screen in U.S.

 

North American distributor ELEVEN ARTS Anime Studio announced plans to release anime screenwriter Mari Okada’s directorial debut in U.S. theaters. Known for her writing on Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day and Anthem of the Heart, among many others, Okada’s first outing as director is Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms, and the next screening is set for July 20.

Maquia is the directorial debut of renowned screenwriter Mari Okada. The film dives into the dilemmas of motherhood, adolescence, femininity, and leadership. The film, hot off its initial February release, quickly made its way across the globe to premiere at the Glasgow Film Festival , where it captivated audiences.
