For a limited time beginning on June 30, 2018, fans of cute mascots and high-speed public transportation will be able to combine their interests by taking a ride on the Hello Kitty Shinkansen, a specially decorated JR Railways bullet train that will make round trips between Shin-Osaka Station in Osaka Prefecture and Hakata in Fukuoka Prefecture.
The Hello Kitty Shinkansen is a Series 500 Shinkansen that is decorated both inside and out with a pink ribbon theme that represents the connections people feel despite being separated by distance. The first car of the train is an exhibition space, dubbed “Hello! Plaza”, while the second car, dubbed “Kawaii! Room” includes an area where passengers can relax and take photos with a giant-sized Hello Kitty doll dressed like a train conductor.
High-speed rail has never been this cute.
