What do you get when zombies fight zombies on Japanese steampunk trains? Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, a TV series brought to you by writer Ichirō Ōkouchi (Code Geass, Overman King Gainer), director Tetsurō Araki (Death Note, Attack on Titan), and legendary character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto (Macross, Gunbuster).
Now, the series will be getting a pair of compilation movies: the Prequel will open on December 30, 2016, followed soon after by Part II on January 7, 2017. Noitamina’s YouTube channel has just released a trailer for the two-part event.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress documents an alternate Industrial Revolution during which a mysterious virus turns people into undead “kabane.” A select few, the “Kabaneri,” are human/kabane hybrids who have managed to resist the full transformative effects of the virus. Leading the Kabaneri charge in the face of human skepticism are the engineer Ikoma and the mysterious Mumei. Together, they try to find help for the survivors as they fight through the kabane hordes.
Audiences attending screenings of either film will also have a chance to buy a Prequel and Sequel art book illustrated by Mikimoto. Books are 4,000 yen each, available while supplies last.
