Yoshikazu Yasuhiko Illustrates Poster for “Ernesto” Historical Drama

Illustrator / manga artist Yoshikazu Yasuhiko (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin) has created a movie poster for Ernesto, an upcoming Japanese / Cuban co-production historical drama film about a half-Japanese, half-Bolivian young man who fought under Che Guevara during a failed revolution in Bolivia in 1967.

Ernesto is a Spanish-language film directed by Junji Sakamoto (Strangers in the City). In the film, Joe Odagiri (Midnight Diner, The Great Passage) plays Freddy Maemura Hurtado, a young man who joined Che Guevara in attempting to overthrow the Bolivian government and who was given the nickname “Ernesto” (after Guevara’s real first name).

Yoshikazu Yasuhiko had previously created a manga about Freddy Maemura Hurtado for the Asahi Shimbun’s Weekly Manga Great Historical Figures publication. Yasuhiko said he was very impressed after seeing Sakamoto’s film, and that he created his illustration based on the teaser poster in only 2 days.

Ernesto hits theaters in Japan on October 06, 2017.
