“Yokai Ningen Bem” Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary with Short Anime Produced by DLE

The 50th anniversary project for the Yokai Ningen Bem/Humanoid Monster Bem anime franchise is revealed today on its official website. In addition to the rebroadcast of the two TV anime series in 1968 and 2006, a newly-produced short gag series Oretacha Yokai Ningen/We Are Humanoid Monster by DLE (Eagle Talon) will be aired on Tokyo MX and BS 11 this October.

The first installment of the reboot project tells the daily life of the three main yokai characters: Bem (Tomokazu Sugita), Bera (Kana Kurashina), and Bero (Kenta Suga) in the Kamara town (inspired by the real Kabuki town in Tokyo) and their struggle to understand people and human nature, in very comedic ways with social satire. This is the first voice acting work for 29-year-old actress Kurashina, who recently played Akari Kawamoto in the two-part live-action film adaptation of Chika Unino’s March Comes in like a Lion manga series.
