Two new cast members have been announced for Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters, the latest TV anime addition to the Digimon cross-media franchise.
Umeka Shōji will play Eri Karan. Eri is a 14 year old, 2nd year student in junior high who is also an active member of an idol group. She has quick reflexes and a vibrant personality. Although she puts on a tough front, inside Eri is actually quite gentle and meek, and she is often lonely and easily moved to tears. Her Buddy Appmon is Dokamon.
Motoko Kumai will play Dokamon, Eri’s Buddy Appmon. Born from an action-game application, Dokamon is strong, but has a soft disposition. Dokamon loves Eri very much, and looks up to Gacchimon as an elder-brother figure.
Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters takes place in a new setting where artificial intelligence beings called Appmon arise from smart phone applications. With the help of a mysterious Appli Drive device, series protagonist Haru Shinkai can bridge the gap between the physical and digital worlds and give Appmon tangible forms. Together Haru and his Appmon companion Gacchimon fight to protect both worlds from the evil machinations of Leviathan, a malevolent AI.
Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters features series direction by Gou Koga, series composition by Yoichi Kato, and character designs by Kenichi Ohnuki. The series will debut on TV Tokyo in October of 2016.
