In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of its serialization started in 1997, Ichijinsha’s official YouTube channel has posted a 18-minute special PV to take a look back at history of Kazuya Minekura’s adventure manga series Saiyuki with a newly-recorded narration by Kanzeon Bosatsu (CV: Rei Igarashi). The manga author herself supervised the script.
Saiyuki, loosely based on a Chinese fantasy novel in the 16th century, Journey to the West, originally started as the author’s doujinshi series, then was serialized in Enix’s Monthly G Fantasy magazine from 1997 to 2002. Its sequel series Saiyuki Reload ran in Ichijinsha’s Comic ZERO-SUM from 2003 to 2009, and its story has continued to the ongoing series Saiyuki Reload Blast in the same magazine. As reported, a TV anime adaptation of Saiyuki Reload Blast is set for a premiere in July 2017 in Japan.
