Japanese entertainment website Umabi has published a new rhythm game for smart phones and web browsers that pits sumo wrestlers against Street Fighter characters in no-holds-barred horse racing competitions. The game is a three-way collaboration between Capcom, the Japan Racing Association, and the Japan Sumo Association.
In addition to featuring digital representations of real-life horses and sumo wrestlers, the game lets you compete against 8 Street Fighter characters, who use their exceptional fighting skills to give their mounts an advantage during the race.
Ryu, Guile, Blanka, Chun Li, Dhalsim, and E. Honda are currently available as opponents, with another two ‘mystery characters’ (M. Bison / Vega and Akuma, judging by the silhouettes) scheduled to be unveiled later.
The game is intended to promote the joys of horse racing, and it consists of 4 rounds of racing plus a special secret stage. Clearing the game rewards the player with bonus wallpaper for their desktop or phone. You can check out the browser version of Japan Sumo Cup here.
