In a move that has got fans’ hearts a-flutter, Studio Chizu (The Boy and the Beast, Wolf Children, MIRAI) recently published a mysterious countdown website that references words and images from the 2006 film, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. The website (available here) includes a ticking clock and allusions to the earlier film, including the URL (miraidematteru.com), which translates in English to: “I’m waiting for you in the future.”
Could this mean that an announcement related to The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is coming in the near-future? Japanese online fandom is already speculating about a possible sequel, but the countdown could also somehow be related to MIRAI, Studio Chizu’s most recent film. We’ll just have to wait and see.
