In addition to the TV anime that will begin broadcasting in Japan in October of 2018, the Seishun Buta Yarou light novel series is also getting an anime theatrical film adaptation entitled Seishun Buta Yarou wa Yumemiru Shoujo no Yume o Minai (“The Teenage Pig-Rascal Doesn’t Dream of a Dreaming Girl”) which adapts the sixth and seventh volumes in the series. The film will be screened in 2019 in venues such as the Shinjuku Wald 9 theater. No further details about the film have yet been revealed.
The original Seishun Buta Yarou novels are written by Hajime Kamoshida, illustrated by Keeji Mizoguchi, and published in Japan by ASCII Media Works (a division of Kadokawa) under their Dengeki Bunko imprint. The story follows Sakuta Azusagawa, a high school boy, and Mai Sakurajima, his senior at school who is currently taking a break from her career as a professional actress. To Sakuta, Mai appears to be dressed in a bunnygirl outfit, but no one else perceives her in this way, and together they investigate the mysterious phenomenon known as “Puberty Syndrome”.
