Sega Announces the Mega Drive Mini for 2018

It’s official, Sega fans: after a tantalizing interview last week with Sega president and COO Kenji Matsubara that teased the idea, Sega is back in the home video game console business (at least temporarily) with the announcement of a Famicom Mini / NES Classic-style product tentatively titled the Mega Drive Mini, which is currently scheduled to be released in 2018.

The news broke at Sega Fes 2018, an industry event that is currently being held at the Belle Salle Akihabara venue in Sotokanda, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, Japan. A prototype of the Mega Drive Mini was shown during a stage event, and a concept image of the console was published to Sega’s official Twitter feed.

The exact details of the Mega Drive Mini (such as the price, the release date, and the library of games that it will include) have not yet been revealed.
