Romantic Misunderstandings Abound in “First Love Monster” Trailer

The official trailer for Hatsukoi Monster (aka First Love Monster), a TV anime adaptation based on the romantic-comedy by Akira Hiyoshimaru about a teenage girl falling in love with an unusually mature-looking elementary school student, is now available online.

The original First Love Monster is serialized in Kodansha’s Aria shōjo manga anthology magazine. An English language version of the manga is also published by Yen Press, who describe the story as follows:

“When you find out who I really am…if you can still say you like me, then I’ll be your boyfriend.

When fifteen-year-old Kaho Nikaidou leaves her sheltered home to start life anew in Tokyo, the last thing she expects is to nearly get hit by a truck! Saved in the nick of time by a handsome stranger, Kaho falls head over heels for him and boldly confesses her feelings. The handsome object of Kaho’s affection agrees to go out with her, but her newfound bliss is short lived when it turns out that her new boyfriend…is a fifth grader?!”

The First Love Monster TV anime is directed by Takayuki Inagaki and features animation by Studio Deen. The series will begin its Japanese broadcast on AT-X and Tokyo MX on July 02, 2016, with additional airings scheduled later on KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, and BS11.
