Rilakkuma, the chill teddy bear with the mysterious zipper on his back, is gearing up for his own Netflix series. After several months of mystery, we finally get our first glimpse of what to expect: not an anime, but a stop-motion series.
The new teaser for Rilakkuma and Kaoru shows Rilakkuma with friends Korilakkuma and Kiiroitori, being as respectively responsible or irresponsible as we’ve come to expect.
The series’s new teaser image also gives us a rare sight: our first glimpse of Kaoru, the 25-year-old office lady with whom Rilakkuma and friends have taken up residence.
Rilakkuma was created by illustrator Aki Kondo at San-X in 2003. The characters has been featured in picture books and on merchandise since then, and 2018 marks his 15th anniversary. The Netflix original is being created to celebrate the milestone.
Rilakkuma and Kaoru will be distributed worldwide exclusively on Netflix starting in spring 2019.
