Raccoons and French Aristocrats Meld in “Rose of Rascal” Collaboration

The irrepressible procyonids of Nippon Animation’s Rascal the Raccoon are teaming up with the French aristocracy of Riyoko Ikeda’s Rose of Versailles in a character goods collaboration entitled “Velbarascal” (a mash-up of “Versailles no Bara” and “Araiguma Rascal”, hence “Rose of Rascal”).

The mash-up features new artwork of Rascal cosplaying as Oscar, Andre, Fersen, and Louis XVI, while Rascal’s girlfriend Lily cosplays as Marie Antoinette. The collaboration celebrates the 45th anniversary of Rose of Versailles as well as the 40th anniversary of Rascal the Raccoon. The basis of the collaboration stems from the fact that “Oscar” and “Rascal” sound similar when pronounced in Japanese.

The collaboration includes a line of character goods, kicking off with body cream and solid perfume. Both items will be available through the Otona Joshi Biyori shop, a character goods store focusing on beauty and cosmetic products that is located on Tokyo Character Street on the first floor of Tokyo Station, in Marunouchi, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, Japan.

The body cream will be released on May 10, 2017, and it retails for 1200 yen ($10.55 US) plus tax. The solid perfume will be released on June 24, 2017, and it retails for 950 yen ($8.35 US) plus tax.
