Nintendo is looking to make waves with the games it has under its belt in the coming years, and it’s no different for its most popular franchise: Mario.
When speaking with IGN during an interview at E3 2016, Shigeru Miyamoto noted that the company is “always challenging themselves” to create something new, saying that “hopefully” we’ll see a new kind of Mario in a year or two.
Miyamoto explained that creating something new with Mario games presents its own sort of challenges since it’s a completely different animal than that of Zelda:
“It’s kind of difficult with Mario because some of the more important conventions of Mario are based on the approachability and accessibility of those games. With the new blood at Nintendo, however, Miyamoto notes that it’s easier for the company to see new ideas with new eyes.
What do you think could come of a brand new Mario game in the next couple of years? Where would you want the famous plumber to go next?
