Affiliate stations located all across the country will host NBC and Telemundo Owned Station’s popular “Clear the Shelters” third annual pet adoption campaign
Hundreds of animal shelters located all throughout the U.S. and in Puerto Rico will offer reduced or waived pet adoption fees to help families adopt a new pet
NEW YORK, NY – (August 3, 2017) – More than 75 NBC and Telemundo affiliate stations will join NBCUniversal Owned Television Station’s popular pet adoption campaign, Clear the Shelters. Launched in July 2017 and culminating on Saturday, August 19, the NBC and Telemundo owned stations’ Clear the Shelters pet adoption campaign will include the participation of NBC and Telemundo stations located all across the U.S. and in Puerto Rico. All participating stations will join with hundreds of animals shelters located throughout the country to help families find and adopt a new pet. Shelters participating in the Clear the Shelters pet adoption campaign will offer low cost or waived pet adoption fees on August 19. The return of the NBC and Telemundo owned stations’ Clear the Shelters pet adoption initiative follows two successful back-to-back annual campaigns that have resulted in more than 70,000 pet adoptions. From older dogs to kittens to rabbits to iguanas, Clear the Shelters has inspired local communities to take action giving homeless pets a permanent home. Last summer, “Rose” a husky with a neurological syndrome who traveled from Turkey to a shelter in Briarcliff Manor, New York found a new home while “Tootsie,” a senior Shih-Tzu with one eye was adopted by a family from Chicago, Illinois.
“Saving the lives of animals is a message that unites everyone across the Carolinas”, said Deborah Collura, General Manager, WCNC-TV. “Last year, we watched our community rally together and save hundreds of pets in the Charlotte area. This year WCNC is proud to partner again with NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations. We have even more shelters participating and it promises to be an inspiring, tail wagging historic event!”
This year, more than 75 NBC and Telemundo affiliates, including WCNC-TV, will participatein the NBC and Telemundo-owned stations’ Clear the Shelters pet adoption campaign, a 50 percent increase in involvement from last year. Affiliate stations from the following station groups are scheduled to participate in Clear the Shelters 2017: Capitol Broadcasting Company, Dispatch Broadcast Group, Gray Television, Hubbard Broadcasting, News-Press & Gazette,Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Raycom Media and Tegna Media, among others.
At the conclusion of the pet adoption campaign, the stations will air a special show that will recap the third annual pet adoption campaign. Katie Lee and Beth Stern will host “Clear the Shelters,” a 30-minute post-adoption drive special that will air beginning Friday, August 25 on the NBC-owned stations plus more than 130 NBC affiliate stations (check local listings). Telemundo stations will also air a post-adoption drive special on Saturday, August 26 that will be co-hosted by Stephanie Himonidis “Chiquibaby” and Elva Saray, hosts of Telemundo 52 Los Angeles’ daily entertainment show, Acceso Total (check local listings).
