NHK (Japanese Broadcasting Corporation/Nippon Housou Kyoukai) officially announced on November 26 that μ’s, the nine-member voice actress unit from the Love Live! School Idol Project franchise will perform in this year’s Kohaku Uta Gassen, the New Year’s Eve singing program. This is the first appearance for the unit formed five years ago for the highest rating Japanese TV program. The average rating of the last year was 44.5% (2nd part).
On the other hand, one of the most popular anime voice actresses/singers, Nana Mizuki, who has appeared in the show for six years in a row since 2009, is not chosen this year. Last year she sang her 30th single “Kindan no Resistance” (Cross Ange: Rondo of Angels and Dragons OP) alone, then “Preserved Roses” (Valvrave the Liberator OP) with T.M.Revolution.
The biggest concern among the Love Live! fans is the health issue of Yoshino Nanjo (the voice of Eri
Ayase), who has had a subluxation of her kneecap and meniscus injury, and has not been able to perform
in the concerts for months. She was absent even from the press conference for the first-timers held by
NHK yesterday. She tweeted yesterday that she hopes that she will be able to perform again by the unit’s
next big concert to be held in March of 2016. So there is not much hope for us to see the full lineup
performance of μ’s on December 31.
