In order to celebrate its 1 millionth customer served, the Kit Kat Chocolatory specialty chocolate stores in Japan will be offering a special, limited edition run of Kit Kat candy bars wrapped in gold-leaf. The special edition treats will be available at all eight Kit Kat Chocolatory locations in Japan, but only 500 units total will be produced.
The candies use the specialty “sublime bitter” Kit Kat flavor as a base. Each chocolate bar of the limited edition gold-leaf run features a single wafer and retails for 2016 yen ($16.41 US) including tax.
Additionally, since Kit Kat bars are often compared in shape to bars of gold bullion, the Kit Kat Chocolatory has also decided to create an actual gold bullion bar shaped like a Kit Kat bar. The 230 gram (8.11 ounce) gold bar of 24k gold will be given away as a prize in a lottery style drawing for people who join the Kit Kat Chocolatory membership club beginning in January of 2016.
