Katsuhisa Namase, Mirai Shida Join “My Hero Academia The Movie” as Original Characters

The official website for My Hero Academia The Movie: The Two Heroes, the upcoming all-new anime feature film based on Kohei Horikoshi’s action shonen manga Boku no Hero Academia/My Hero Academia, today announced the two guest voice cast who play the film’s original characters, All Might’s ex-partner David Shield and his daughter Melissa. Both characters are supervised by the manga author himself.

David Shield is voiced by 57-year-old actor Katsuhisa Namase (Boyacky in the 2009 live-action film Yatterman). The character is Melissa’s father and served as a partner of the young All Might when he was active in overseas. He is a internationally-renowned scientist who has developed support items for many heroes, including All Might’s costume in the past.

Namase: “I will try my best to breathe life into the role of David. It’s been a long time since the last time to

perform with Shida-san, but I have always felt happy like her real father when I heard her success. Even after

a long period, I felt relieved that she didn’t change at all.

Melissa Shield is played by 24-year-old actress Mirai Shida (Arrietty in Studio Ghibli’s 2010 film The Secret

World of Arrietty). She is a girl without “Quirk” whom Deku meets at “I • Island.” While she has been

distresses by her lack of “Quirk,” she continues to work hard every day with her bright and positive mind

to become a scientist like her father David whom she has respected.

Shida: “I feel very honored to take part in the film of ‘Hero Academia,’ which has been very popular. A

voice recording session is planned soon, and I will do my best to not to betray the fan’s anticipation. As

joining voice acting session, which is still difficult for me to get used to, Namase-san’s presence gives

me a feeling of security.”

The film tells an original story supervised by the manga author Horikoshi, which is set after the term-

end examination ended. While the members of U.A. High School are waiting for a forest camp in the

summer vacation, Deku and All Might are visiting “I • Island,” a moving city with huge population

that floats on a foreign sea, with an invitation from someone. During “I • Expo” to display the research

results about “Quirk” and “Hero Item,” Deku meets a girl named Melissa who has no “Quirk.” She reminds

Deku of himself in the past who also lacked a “Quirk.” All of sudden, the security system of the island

is hacked by an unknown villain and all of the people in the island are being held hostage. Then “a project”

that may shock the structure of the hero society is launched. The one person who holds the key to the

project is All Might, the symbol of peace.
