Karuta Meets King’s Game in “Cobra Party” Card Game

If you like karuta, but wish it was grittier and let you also boss people around, then boy have we got news for you.

Cobra Party mixes the adult sci-fi action of Space Adventure Cobra with the excitement of karuta, featuring lines from the series’s stories rather than Japanese poetry. The deck also features vintage Cobra art, and is made for a decidedly more grown-up audience.

In addition, the deck can function as a basis for a “king’s game” — a party game in which players draw lots to see who gets to truth-or-dare their fellow players into awkward situations.

Cobra Party also just so happens to be coming out on the 40th anniversary of the long-running series.

Attendees of this month’s Nico Nico Super Conference will be able to swipe one of 200 copies available for advance sale for 2,000 yen. The game will go on wider sale on Amazon starting May 26, for 3,218 yen.
