Japan Box Office: “In This Corner of the World” Reaches 2 Billion Yen Mark

It has been confirmed that the anime film adaptation of Fumiyo Kouno’s award-winning manga Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni/In This Corner of the World has earned an impressive 2.046 billion yen from the 1.566 million ticket sales in Japan by February 12, in 14 weeks since its release on November 12, 2016. It still ranked 8th in Japan’s latest weekend box office for February 11-12, staying in the top 10 for 14 consecutive weeks.


As reported, the film has also been passionately received by critics and journalists, collecting 17 awards from various film festivals, award events and polls. Starting with only 69, it is now screened at 289 theaters across Japan. Shout! Factory has acquired all rights in North America to release the film and plans theatrical releases in the U.S. and Canada in September.
