“In This Corner of the World,” “Lu Over the Wall” Win Japan Media Arts Festival Awards

Japan Media Arts Festival, organized by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs and The National Art Center, announced the winners of its four categories (art, entertainment, animation, manga) for the year 2017. 4,192 works from 98 countries and regions were submitted to the 21st event. The prize money of 600,000 yen (about 5,660 US dollars) are sent to the grand prize winners. The award-winning works will be exhibited at the National Art Center in Tokyo from June 13 to 24.

Surprisingly, there are two Grand Prix winners for the Animation Division this year. The last time it

happened was the 5th Festival in 2001, when Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away and Satoshi Kon’s

Millennium Actress shared the prize.
