The long-awaited live-action adaptation of Saint Young Men is about to hit the airwaves. And to get you acquainted with the IRL Jesus and Buddha, there’s a VR video that invites you into their 6-tatami room.
The original manga features the two religious icons as young adults living in modern-day Japan, dealing with everything from keeping up with their favorite blogs to accidentally performing miracles in broad daylight. The manga has also been adapted into an anime.
The live-action series stars Kenichi Matsuyama (L in the original Death Note films) as Jesus and Shota Sometani (Shinichi Izumi in the Parasyte live-action films) as Buddha.
In addition to the key visual seen above, a 360 VR video has been released on YouTube, featuring Jesus and Buddha trying to (nonviolently) dispatch a cockroach. The entire scene was ad-libbed by Matsuyama and Sometani in-character on the set. Click and drag to look around the room — or, if you’re watching from a smart device, move your screen around.
Saint Young Men will air this fall on Kakao’s Piccoma TV app.
