“Gundam 00” Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Sequel Anime

In addition to the announcement of a stage play adaptation, the Gundam 00 Festival 10 Re:vision event announced other big plans to celebrate the anime’s 10th anniversary. Chief among them is a new anime sequel project, with director Seiji Mizushima (Fullmetal Alchemist, Shaman King) confirming his involvement.

While we’ll have to wait for further details, the Ikebukuro branch of retail chain Animate reported on the project being a sequel to the original Gundam 00 anime.

Sunrise’s Gundam 00 first kicked off in 2007, with the second season coming to an end in 2009, followed by a sequel film in 2010. Crunchyroll streams the series, and Right Stuf has a Blu-ray and DVD release on the way starting in July.

Here’s how Crunchyroll describes the series:

The year is 2307 A.D. Although fossil fuels have been depleted, humanity has obtained a new source of energy to replace them, in the form of a large-scale solar power generation system based on three huge orbital elevators. However, the benefits of this system are available only to a handful of major powers and their allies. In this world of never-ending conflict, a private armed organization appears, dedicated to the elimination of war through armed force. Its name is Celestial Being, and it is in possession of “Gundam” mobile suits.
