The Japanese branch of online game publisher Nexon has posted an announcement on the Japanese page for the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online massively multi-player online first-person shooter that the game will officially shut down in Japan on November 29th in Japan, following a year of service that began in November of 2016 after multiple beta periods.
The game licensed the Ghost In the Shell Stand Alone Complex property from Production I.G. to serve as the basis for an online game that was first announced in 2015. Before the shut down on November 29th, in-game currency redemption and branded currency cards will cease to be sold and cease to function in September, by which time elements of the game that require the currency will also cease to function. The game is still available in the US and other territories in the Nexon service area, although the game isn’t considered to be very popular, owing to its focus on first-person shooter mechanics despite the tie-in to the franchise.
