“Gamera” Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Film Screenings in Tokyo

The Kaguraza theater in Tokyo is gearing up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Gamera – everyone’s favorite fire-breathing, flying turtle – with an exclusive set of film screenings and talk events scheduled for November 28, 2015.

The event is divided into 2 parts: the 1st part includes a screening of the original 1965 Gamera film and a guest talk by film director / special effects artist Tomoo Haraguchi and sculptor Kan Takahama.

The 2nd part includes a screening of the rare fan-film Gamera 4: Truth followed by another pair of guest talks by fan-film director Shinpei Hayashiya and Kadokawa executive vice president Shinichiro Inoue and visual effects director Toshio Miike and film director Kiyotaka Taguchi, respectively. Author Kento Tomoi will moderate the talks.

Both parts will include a screening of the full trailer for the upcoming Gamera film directed by Katsuhito Ishii along with footage from the film’s announcement at the 2015 New York Comic Con. Finally, both parts will include prizes given away through rock-paper-scissors tournaments.

Space is limited, so the tickets will be awarded via a lottery-style drawing. Fans who wish to attend the event can find additional scheduling information (in Japanese) as well as the opportunity to apply for tickets here.
