“Detective Pikachu” Movie Adds Ken Watanabe to Cast

The live-action Detective Pikachu movie has another cast member to reveal. Ken Watanabe (Godzilla, Tampopo, Inception) will be getting in on the sleuthing action alongside the Ryan Reynolds-voiced Pikachu. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Watanabe has signed on to play movie-original character Detective Yoshida, which means he technically has the same job as an electric rat.

Beyond Reynolds and Watanabe, the Rob Letterman-directed movie stars Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies).

The Detective Pikachu 3DS game launches globally on March 23.
