“You know, I tell my students that most existential parables are really love stories without a romantic interest.”

12 Reason Why I Love Her isn’t my favorite Romance Comic.  It’s not my favorite Black And White comic– or even my favorite Rich/Jones comic. It’s simply my FAVORITE COMIC.

For those of you who have been with me for a while, you can actually dig through my bibliography and see how–starting in 2006, after I rescued a copy of 12 Reason Why I Love Her from the clearance bin at Atomic Comics–I stopped dicking around with generic stories about zombies and cliched strongmen and started writing real, raw, vignettes about things I’d actually done, and ways I genuinely felt (starting with the Modern Mythology Press Minis, and culminating in the first work of mine that anyone ever cared about, Horrible Little People).  I even ripped off the “suggested listening” bit EIGHT YEARS LATER for that Loki book I did with Boom Studios.

12 Reasons Why I Love Her spoke to me in a way that I didn’t think comic books were capable.  It elevated my respect for the art form, and changed not only the way I write, but the way I think about love and loss.

The damn thing altered the course of my life, and there’s a good chance that it’ll do the same for you.  I just found out that it’s back in print after ten years, and I highly suggest you pre-order a copy for yourself, or someone you love.
