ONI PRESS ISSUES SECOND PRINTING FOR EISNER-NOMINATED METEOR MEN BY JEFF PARKER AND SANDY JARRELL
EISNER-NOMINATED METEOR MEN SOLD OUT DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND; SECOND PRINTING AVAILABLE JUNE 2015
PORTLAND, OR May 29, 2015 – Oni Press, Portland’s premier independent comic book publisher, announced today a second printing for the Eisner-nominated Meteor Men by Jeff Parker (SHAZAM, BATMAN ‘66) and Sandy Jarrell (JUNGLE JIM). Available in June, librarians and retailers are encouraged to place orders early for the critically acclaimed young adult science-fiction graphic novel.
Meteor Men by Jeff Parker and Sandy Jarrell, nominated for a 2015 Will Eisner Award in the category of Best Publication for Teens (13-17), is a tale of first contact with an alien race and a test of humanity in the face of armageddon. On a summer night, Alden Baylor sits in a field watching the largest meteor shower in human history, a celestial event which brings travelers who will change the world completely. When Alden connects to one of these visitors, he discovers the true purpose behind their migration—and what it will mean for all life on earth.
Praise for Meteor Men:
“A strange, brilliant and utterly compelling cosmic fable. I couldn’t put it down.”
– Lev Grossman, New York Times best-selling author of THE MAGICIANS.
“…optimistic and disquieting, and will likely provoke strong reactions and discussion.”
– School Library Journal
“I love alien stories, coming-of-age stories and Southern stories. This book is all three and then some. A beautifully-rendered tale of a boy longing for connection.”
– Peyton Reed, director of BRING IT ON, ANT-MAN
Oni Press editor-in-chief James Lucas Jones added, “We’re over the moon with the Eisner nomination for what we consider one of the best science-fiction young adult graphic novels ever published, and we’re excited for new readers to discover the magic and wonder of this story both at retail and in libraries.”
Also available in their second printings include I Was the Cat by Paul Tobin and Benjamin Dewey, which was also nominated for a 2015 Will Eisner Award in the category of Best Publication for Kids (8-12), and the critically acclaimed young adult sports comedy Down Set Fight by Chris Sims, Chad Bowers, and Scott Kowalchuk. Both titles are currently available for order.
I Was The Cat by Paul Tobin and Benjamin Dewey follows Allison Breaking, a talented journalist with her own blog and a lot of bills to pay. When she receives an offer from a mysterious stranger named Burma to write his memoirs, it’s an offer she can’t refuse, but Burma is quite literally unlike any man Allison’s ever known… because he’s a cat. This cat has stories to tell about how he, over the course of a few lifetimes, has shaped the world and another, darker story that Allison must risk all to uncover.
Down Set Fight by Chad Bowers, Chris Sims and Scott Kowalchuk tells the tale of one man versus every mascot in professional sports. “Fearless” Chuck Fairlane was football’s fastest rising star, but his career came to a screeching halt when he was expelled from the league after causing the biggest brawl in the history of sports. Years later, Chuck has found peace as a high school football coach, until costumed mascots begin attacking him for seemingly no reason.
