Konami has kept the Castlevania franchise relatively dormant in recent years, but they’re looking to change that with a newly-revealed game for iOS. Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls is a side-scrolling action game with a cooperative mode and boss rush for up to four players, as well as a competitive mode that pits four against four.
Grimoire of Souls takes place at a time during which Dracula has been destroyed, but that peace definitely isn’t going to last long. Protagonist Genya Arikado soon receives a letter that declares “The Grimoire has run wild and Count Dracula will be resurrected,” so he sets off straight for the sender.
In addition to what appears to be more traditional Castlevania gameplay, there will also be classic music from the series and appearances by a bunch of familiar characters. Japanese government agent Genya Arikado takes the lead along with researcher and assistant Lucy (both pictured below), but you’ll also run into the likes of Alucard, Simon, Charlotte, Shanoa, and Maria.
There’s currently no release date for Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, but closed beta sign-ups are available in Japan and the official website is live.
