Kenji Tsuruta’s Wandering Island was nominated for the American comic industry’s 2017 Eisner Award in the “Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia” category. Dark Horse’s July 2016 release was the first new Tsurata work to be released in America in almost 20 years (’98’s Spirit Of Wonder collection). Now, Japanese collectors didn’t have to wait quite that long for a new book, but it’s still been a while.
Kodansha will be releasing volume two on November 21st, 2017, having released the previous collection six years ago, on October 21, 2011.
After launching in Manga Box AMASIA, the series has been running sporadically in Afternoon since 2012.
Mikura Amelia is a free-spirited young woman who lives alone with her cat and operates an air delivery service, flying her vintage seaplane to Japan’s small island communities located hundreds of miles out in the Pacific. When her beloved grandfather passes away, she discovers he left her an undelivered parcel, addressed to an island that doesn’t exist . . . or does it? To answer the question, Mikura flies off in search of the truth behind the Wandering Island!
