“Blade of the Immortal” Live-Action Film Hits Theaters April 29, 2017

The official website for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Hiroaki Samura’s Mugen no Junin/Blade of the Immortal jidaigeki manga today confirmed its theatrical release day in Japan is set for April 29, 2017, and also announced 19-year-old actress Hana Sugisaki is playing the main heroine Rin Asano. Among anime fans, Sugisaki is known for her voice work as Sayaka in Studio Ghibli’s 2014 film When Marnie Was There

 

The only other announced cast is 43-year-old Takuya Kimura as the protagonist Manji. He is a member of Japanese idol group SMAP that recently announced its breakup in the end of this year. 55-year-old Takashi Miike is attached to direct from a screenplay by Tetsuya Oishi (Deatth Note, Beck). The shooting was already held in Kyoto from November 2015 to early January of 2016.

 

Miike is now reportedly working on the first part of the live-action film adaptations of JoJo’s Bizarre

Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, the fourth story arc of Hirohiko Araki’s long-running JoJo’s Bizarre

Adventure manga series, for a summer 2017 release.
