Author Akamatsu Releases Comments on “UQ HOLDER!” Anime Adaptation

47-year-old manga artist Ken Akamatsu today confirmed on his official Twitter that an anime adaptation of his ongoing manga UQ HOLDER! is in the works. The sequel to his previous mega-hit series Mahou Sensei Negima!/Negima! Magister Negi Magi has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine since August 2013, and the next 11th tankobon volume is set to be released on July 15.

It is also confirmed that the manga will change its magazine from Weekly Shonen Magazine to Monthly Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in October after some breaks. More media mix projects based on the Mahora world that includes Negima! and UQ HOLDER! are expected to be announced soon.

“An anime adaptation of UQ HOLDER! is finally announced in the newest issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine

released today! While no details are available yet, since UQ HOLDER! is considered as a sequel to Mahou

Sensei Negima!, I am hoping that the characters who have been appearing since the Negima! era (Evangeline

and such) will be played by the same voice actresses, as many as possible. “

“And I will move the serialization of UQ HOLDER! to Monthly Bessatsu Shonen Magazine. Now I am already

48 years old, and I have been working on weekly serialization works for Magazine for 23 years, the job has

become too tough for me physically. I think it’s a good time to make room for my juniors. With about 60

percent of my current amount of work, I hope to keep working as an artist with a little bit of more time to

spare from now on.”
