“Arifureta” Light Novel Series Teases Spin-Off, Drama CD, and More

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest, a fantasy light novel series written by Ryo Shirakome and illustrated by Takayaki about an ordinary high school boy who ends up stuck in a fantasy world with a lousy job class, has announced three major projects in the works.

The first project is a spin-off novel, written by Ryo Shirakome and illustrated by Takayaki, entitled Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou Rei (“Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest Zero”), which will be published in Japan on December 25, 2017.

The second project is an audio drama CD that will be included with the special edition of the 7th volume of Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest, which will also be published in Japan on December 25, 2017. The audio drama CD features the voices of Toshinari Fukamachi as the protagonist Hajime, Yuki Kuwahara as the vampire-girl Yue, and Minami Takahashi as the bunny-girl Shia.

The third project has not yet been revealed. More information will be released later in 2017.

The original Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest light novels are published in Japan by Overlap Bunko. English language versions of the series are available via digital distribution through J-Novel Club and in-print via Seven Seas Entertainment, who describe the story as follows:

Seventeen year old Hajime Nagumo is your average, everyday otaku. However, his simple life of pulling all-nighters and sleeping in school is suddenly turned upside down when he, along with the rest of his class, is summoned to a fantasy world! They’re treated like heroes and tasked with the duty of saving the human race from utter extinction. But what should have been any otaku’s wet dream quickly turns into Hajime’s nightmare. While the rest of his class are blessed with godlike powers, Hajime’s job, Synergist, only has a single transmutation skill. Ridiculed and bullied by his classmates for being weak, he soon finds himself in despair. Will he be able to survive in this dangerous world of monsters and demons with only a glorified blacksmith’s level of strength?
