Akari and Shino’s BFF Leaf Pies!

We’re celebrating the release of Aria the Scarlett Ammo AA with a recipe for some of those delicious Leaf Pies the girls love to snack on!

Nothing says “best friends” like sharing a delicious and buttery Leaf Pie! With their cute design and satisfyingly sweet flavor, they’re the perfect thing for every BUTEI-in-training. But if you’re looking to win the heart of your BFF and prove you’re her true (and possibly only real) friend, then you’ll want to bake these treats yourself!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 Colt M1911A1—you never know when you’ll have to spring into action!
  • 1 leaf-shaped or round cookie cutter
  • puff pastry dough
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • parchment paper

  • red bean paste (or any kind of delicious filling you’d like!)

Take half of your puff pastry dough, roll it out until it’s about 2 mm thick, and cut the dough using your cookie cutter. Don’t have a leaf-shaped cookie cutter? No worries! Take a round cookie cutter and use your rolling pin to shape the dough into a nice oval shape.

Pour most of your sugar on top of parchment paper and place your cut dough in the sugar, making sure it sticks to the underside.

To make your leaves look more realistic, use the back side of a kitchen knife to make vein markings. If you cut through a bit, that’s okay!

Optional: If you’d like to add filling, take two leaf cutouts, spread the filling carefully on the inside, and sandwich them together. Then make sure the bottom is coated with sugar!

Arrange your sugar-coated leaves on a baking tray. Preheat your oven to 450°F and chill the dough in the fridge for several minutes

The next step will prove you’re ready to be a true BUTEI! After letting the leaves bake for 4-5 minutes—no longer!—be sure to drop your oven temperature down to 400°F and let them continue baking for 7-8 minutes. But there’s no time to rest—you don’t want to serve burnt Leaf Pies, do you?! Keep an eye on these and make sure they’re turning a lovely light, golden brown. Take out sooner rather than later if you’re worried.

Sprinkle more sugar on top of each leaf and allow them to cool. Then, wrap these up and present them to your true lo—best friend! She’ll love them and you.

Not quite sweet enough for your or her tastes? No worries! Melt some butter, lightly coat the leaves and then sprinkle more sugar.

What goes best with these pies—besides a nice glass of milk? Watching Aria the Scarlet Ammo AA with your BFF! Own it on Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack 4/18.
