Plans have been announced for 40 yearold singer/song writer aiko to perform the theme song for fall’s theatrical anime adaptation of Yoshitoki Ōima’s acclaimed A Silent Voice (aka Koe no Katachi). aiko last peformed an anime theme in 2005’s Arashi no Yoru ni (Stormy Night).

A Silent Voice hits Japanese theaters on September 17, 2016.

An English language version of A Silent Voice is released in print by Kodanasha and distributed digitally by Crunchyroll, who describe the story as follows:
“I wish we had never met. I wish we could meet once again. A boy who can hear, Shoya Ishida, and a transfer student who can’t, Shoko Nishimiya. One fateful day, the two meet, and Shoya leads the class in bullying Shoko. But before long, the class shifts its target from Shoko to Shoya. Years later, Shoya feels strongly that he must see Shoko once again.”
