The simmering flame first brought to bear in UNCANNY AVENGERS #1 over two years ago will at last burst into an out of control inferno on October 8 with the release of AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS #1!
The Red Skull has declared World War Hate, using the potent telepathic abilities he pilfered from the deceased Charles Xavier to establish a “Red Supremacy” in the former mutant haven of Genosha, capturing and tormenting the Children of the Atom. In order to defeat this madman, the two teams that battled one another during AVENGERS VS. X-MEN will have to put their differences aside and unite.
Every day between now and October 8, Marvel.com and our social channels on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and Google+ will release a new exclusive piece of AXIS content, from writer Rick Remender providing insight into the featured characters, first look art by Adam Kubert, and excerpts of dialogue from Remender’s scripts.

In order for good to triumph in AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS, not only must Earth’s Mightiest Heroes assemble, the Children of the Atom must heal the schism between them. Can they do it? A exclusive excerpt from Rick Remender’s script suggests it may not be impossible…Day 28
Can Iron Man bring the conflict to an end? Take an exclusive sneak peek at Adam Kubert’s art from AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS #1!Day 27
Since his first appearances in UNCANNY X-FORCE, Evan, aka Genesis, has embodied the struggle of nature vs. nurture. In AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS, with the return of Apocalypse, his destiny will finally be revealed.“[Evan] has spent most of his life grappling with the seemingly inevitable transformation into the monstrous Apocalypse, and has, through negative reinforcement and the world around him, come to a place where he has stopped seeing any other road forward for himself and seeing this as almost an inevitable conclusion,” explains AXIS writer and Evan’s co-creator Rick Remender. “And during the event, in the opening act, Evan is put in a situation where he has to try and preserve peace between the warring factions of the mutants, specifically Havok and Cyclops. And we see the true character of who he is and what he’s made of, but as the event transpires, the inevitable return of Apocalypse will put Evan to quite the test.”
Cyclops has amassed many enemies in the recent past, but who could be the one to ultimately bring him down? AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS could answer this question, as this exclusive excerpt from Rick Remender’s script alludes…Day 25
A potential threat gets put down hard…for now, in this exclusive AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS #1 panel by Adam Kubert!Day 24
Havok has been at the heart of the storm for quite some time now as leader of the fractured Avengers Unity Squad. Recently, the younger Summers brothers finally brought his team together to save the world, albeit at the expense of his own physical appearance, suffering massive facial damage to defeat Kang.
When the Red Skull takes his plans to the next level, Avengers and X-Men alike will be looking to Alex, a position he’s only barely become comfortable with.
“Havok has finally succeeded in unifying the X-Men and the Avengers and finding common ground, but it’s too late,” says Rick Remender. “Their inability to come together and to quit the petulant squabbling and to unify has left them quite a bit vulnerable to the Red Skull, and he is exploiting that. So Alex has been put in a situation of finally leading a team and succeeding through the events of ‘Avenge the Earth,’ and showing them all the drastic consequences if they are not to unite and work together, but he must now suffer the punishment of it not happening quite soon enough.”
Iron Man blasts into action in this exclusive panel from AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS #1 by Adam Kubert!Day 22
In today’s exclusive excerpt from Rick Remender’s AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS script, a mission statement emerges. Who has made this their credo and will it spell prosperity or disaster for the Marvel Universe?
The face of evil…or good? AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS will provide the answer, but take an exclusive sneak peek with this Adam Kubert panel!
Relatively dormant of late in her campaigns against Asgardia, The Enchantress–last seen in X-MEN–returns during AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS in a new role for her.
“Amora finds herself face-to-face with a threat that only she can contend with, but in doing so finds herself, similar to some of the other villains, changed,” explains Rick Remender. “And faced with the prospect of a fiery demise for the world, she doesn’t remain changed. The relationship with Loki becomes a bit more complicated as her feelings change towards him as well.”
What deadly menace has the Vision and the Avengers tangled up? Take an exclusive sneak peek in this AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS panel by Adam Kubert!Day 18
AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS could not come at a worse time for the hero we’ve known for years as Thor.
The once Worthy God of Thunder lost his hammers and his pride at the end of Original Sin. Now, sporting a tarnished attitude, the original Odinson must help his friends contend with the Red Skull and his plans.
“This story takes place soon after Original Sin in terms of continuity, and so Odinson is still the Thor we are using,” clarifies Rick Remender. “He finds himself at a crossroads as well, after having lost the ability to wield the hammer, and thus has begun to undermine his own confidence and his faith in himself. And he falls pretty far during the course of AXIS. Ultimately, he will be forced to make a decision in regards to his half-brother Loki that will define both of them for some time.”
The battle within rages on as Captain America attacks The Vision in this exclusive panel from AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS by Adam Kubert!Day 16
The heroes of the Avengers and X-Men have no shortage of ghosts from their past that could come back to haunt them during AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS. This exclusive excerpt from Rick Remender’s script gives some hint as to which particular spectres could be coming home to roost…Day 15
While haunted by the death of Charles Xavier at his hands, Cyclops has remaind resolute in battling for mutant rights in the pages of UNCANNY X-MEN. His stance has evolved, but his end goal to safeguard his people has not.
AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS brings about the nightmares come true for all mutants, and gives Scott Summers the opportunity to back up his bluster.
“Cyclops is proven to be right in his own eyes, in his assumption that the humans will stop at nothing to wipe the mutants off of the Earth and that there will constantly be human threats,” says Rick Remender. “He finds himself in a situation where most of his fears and most of his predictions are shown to be true, but at the same time has little option but to join forces with the Avengers, and to try and turn the tide. But how that alliance pays out, or plays out, will obviously be a secret.”
Sunfire vs. The Wasp?! The Unity Squad comes to blows in AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS and this exclusive preview panel by Adam Kubert…
The legacy of Charles Xavier has been a huge motivating factor for not only the X-Men, but now the Avengers Unity Squad as well. But how can they truly know if they’ve lived up to his dream?
This exclusive excerpt from Rick Remender’s AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS script poses that question…
Since the death of Charles Xavier, Rogue has experienced a downward spiral. Over the course of UNCANNY AVENGERS, despite becoming one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and helping to save the planet, she has clashed with her teammates and lost the control over her powers she fought so long to gain.
Unfortunately for her, AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS will not let up on Rogue’s trials…but it could also offer redemption.
“Rogue has been in a state of regression, as she has fallen to despair [in UNCANNY AVENGERS],” says Rick Remender. “The death of Charles robbed her of all of the progress she had made and all of the hope and left her confused and angry, and looking for someone to blame, someone to exact revenge upon. She’s finally changing that arc at the beginning of this, but it’s right as she has lost the ability to control her powers and is now stuck, yet again, with another person rambling around in her head.
“I think that in my mind, she was the one who was most dramatically affected by the loss of Charles, in that when he found her, she was the most damaged, maybe next to Wolverine, in the history of the X-Men, and it was his belief in her and his willingness to disband the X-Men if they didn’t accept her, that was the foundation for her that she built upon, so having that foundation crumbled away and now being faced with the Red Skull…[she is] quite eager to undo the molestation of Xavier and put things right.”
As seen in today’s AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS #1 exclusive panel by Adam Kubert, the chaos doesn’t end outside the Quinjet…Day 10
Today’s glimpse at Rick Remender’s AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS script shows that somebody may have lost faith in one of mutantkind’s foremost champions…but who?
Over the course of LOKI: AGENT OF ASGARD to date, the Trickster has flirted with the concept of heroism; in AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS, events force him to embrace the good within him perhaps faster than he may have hoped.
“Loki is in a redemption arc already, and has found himself faced with the challenge of proving himself capable of being a hero, but of course the person who doubts him the most is himself,” notes Rick Remender. “And deep down, in the recesses of his mind, there is his future self cackling at him, pulling him into despair, convincing him that there is no other road for him. And AXIS will allow him to answer that question once and for all for himself, as to what the true fiber and makeup of his character is and whether or not he is inferior to his half-brother Thor.”
Avengers Quinjets may be pretty durable, but as shown in a panel from AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS #1 by Adam Kubert, they can’t stand up to everything…
With the DEATH OF WOLVERINE currently playing out, Sabretooth stands poised to be at loose ends with the absence of his archnemesis.
AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS will provide a surprising new role for Victor Creed. However, will the bestial mutant rise to the occasion or be ground down by an unfamiliar challenge?
“Creed is drawn into this for reasons that are at first entirely selfish, but finds himself in a situation much like the situation that Logan was in years ago where the blood on his hands and the memories of what he has done are no longer sitting well,” says Rick Remender. “And he is now faced with seeing the world in a different light and also seeing what he has done in a different light, and desperately wanting to erase the past but seeing that the only way he has to do that is to try and do something positive moving forward. Whether or not he succeeds, of course, will remain to be seen.”
The Red Skull will unleash “World War Hate” in AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS, and as Rick Remender’s script shows, nobody will be immune…Day 5
He may not be “Worthy” anymore, but that doesn’t stop the Odinson from preparing to join the fray in this AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS #1 panel by Adam Kubert…
Most major events in the Marvel Universe in recent memory have proved taxing to The Scarlet Witch, and AXIS will prove no exception.
After suffering at the hands of manipulations and her own instability, Wanda Maximoff has finally seemed to gain some semblance of redemption and sanity in UNCANNY AVENGERS. The Red Skull will attempt to rip this away and utilize the powerful mutant for his own purposes.
“Wanda has a number of large revelations in AXIS, and she’s a character who, because of her power set and what she’s capable of, has turned into a prize to be sought by numerous evil beings throughout her history,” says Rick Remender. “As we saw in UNCANNY AVENGERS, the Red Skull wants to use Wanda and her reality warping abilities to accomplish something. And now that he has also transcended the physical form and become something different, he has the power to make that happen.
“Wanda will have had enough. And this is when she finally will have the opportunity to stand up and look at the people who have most recently manipulated her and taken advantage of her, and she will set out on a course to acquire sweet revenge. That list would probably include Doctor Doom and Magneto starting off on the top, so we will definitely have some big moments for Wanda in this, and a large revelation that will change her life quite a bit moving forward.”
In AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS, even close allies will find themselves butting heads when the tension rises, as can be seen by this piece of dialogue from Rick Remender’s script…
Iron Man, The Wasp and The Vision prepare for battle in this exclusive Adam Kubert preview art from AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS #1…
Every time The Red Skull has risen up, Captain America has been there to stop him, but in AXIS, the playing field has changed.
Steve Rogers, the original Cap, has been aged due to recent events, and handed his shield and mantel off to Sam Wilson, the former Falcon. The latter will experience a harsh trial by fire, while the former attempts to adjust to a new role.
“Both [Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson] have a large role in this. Steve is more ‘eye in the sky’ and helping run operations, and Sam is on the ground and he’s the field leader,” explains Rick Remender. “But Sam finds himself in a situation unlike anything that he’s ever been through before, and how he maneuvers through that will then lead him on a collision course with Steve Rogers—not just a physical one, but an ideological one. And we will see Sam and Steve at incredible odds.”
